			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Saturday May 5th, a group of volunteers from McBee Station apartments rolled up their sleeves and cleaned up and cleared out dead debris, leaves and trash from the perimeter of  the New Horizons Family Health Center in the Far West End. Part of Hands On Greenville, the effort was a total success providing much needed sprucing up of the building. <p>Once known for textile manufacturing, Greenville has become an international powerhouse, hosting companies from all parts of the globe. The city, along with Spartanburg, Anderson and other nearby towns known as &#8220;The Upstate,&#8221; boast more than 250 international firms, including BMW (Germany), Michelin (France), GlaxoSmithKline (United Kingdom) and Kyocera (Japan).</p>
<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s the highest international investment per capita in the nation,&#8221; said Nancy Whitworth, Greenville&#8217;s Director of Economic Development. Whitworth said the area&#8217;s international flavor is actually derived from its textile past when people came from all over the world to buy and sell and study manufacturing techniques.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Cherry trees, tulips, azaleas and pear trees have brought spring to Greenville and The Far West End.  April 6 should be a beautiful evening for a stroll, and what better place to do it than in a neighborhood filled with galleries and open studios?</p>
<p>Stretch your legs this Friday, April 6th, for First Friday in the Far West End, when area artists&#8217; works will be showcased after business hours.  As always, Artisan Traders event venue  will be providing live music, good food, and beverages.</p>
<p>The venue will have quite a few artists on hand to chat about their work with visitors, including Russ Anderson, Rory Curtis, Jim Greene, Lou  Koppel, Donna Landau, Carol Sloan, Diana St. Laurent, Steve Weaver, Mark Woodward, and the LOMA team, with Adam Schrimmer.  AlArtisan Traders will also have Syprian Harvey and Teresa Slack showing off their  iron-work table and chairs.</p>
<p>On First Fridays, Artisan Traders becomes the heart of the district, a fun hub which serves as a social gathering place, a place to make new friends and launch a walking tour of the Far West End.</p>
<p>This month The Catering Cru will be satisfying hungry diners at Artisan Traders, serving shrimp and grits, London broil,  garlic mashed potatoes, steamed veggies and a salad.  Art Eats Bakery  will be offering complimentary cakes to savor, so go hungry and ready to relax.  Mark Webb and Katlin Owens will entertain with acoustic music.  Artisan Traders is at 1274 Pendleton Street in the Far West End.</p>
<p><strong>Getting Here:</strong>  The Far West End is located one mile from downtown Greenville and the historic West End, and is reached by following Pendleton Street as it crosses Academy.</p>
